August 12, 2018: World Dog Show Amsterdam 2018
World Dog Show Amsterdam 2018 . Meeting with CKU Franki Leung and his team.
I found the World Dog Show in Amsterdam 2018 a very enjoyable day indeed.
As always it was a very busy day and lucky enough the weather turned in favour of the dogs attending.
We took along 2 of our Chongqing dogs as so many people had requested we do so as they have never seen the breed before.
If I'm honest i was amazed at the attention Zhu-Long and Lilly received,
it was almost impossible to move with out being stopped and asked questions and request for photographs.
We was approached by many organisations including the press, well known dog news paper and judges plus not forgetting the general public.
I was very proud of the dogs who handled the whole day surprisingly well considering all the attention they received.
In the afternoon we had arranged to meet Mr Franki Leung of the CKU and his team along with APAC Section
President Mr Dinky Santos and CKU General Secretary Mr Tim Hsieh. We was received with a very warm welcome and it was very interesting
and informative to be able to ask questions to Mr Franki Leung who is personally in charge of the Native Breed Programme and registration process
for the Chongqing Dog and Chuandong Hound.
On the day we would meet up with Robby and Sinead Mitchell and their children.
Robby had requested a interview with Mr Leung on the breeds and the CKU vision for the future of which i would be invited to partake in.
The interview was very informative and necessary for the many people seeking guidance on the CKU vision and future plans for the breed
including a little history to explain the CKU vision. I will add the video plus some photos of the meeting to document the day.
I will also set out topics both discussed on and off camera of which Franki Leung believed to be important to owners and breeders
of the Chongqing Dog and Chuandong Hound.
Interview people present Franki Leung , Robby Mitchell and Matthew Spinks , topic Chongqing Dog and Chuandong Hound.
Key points of the interview:
1: It was felt that CKU registration of all dogs in and outside of China was important for the meeting of FCI recognition
target date set by the CKU of 2021.
2: It was felt that creating a network of serious breeders and owners of both breeds was a important part of this process to help aid the future
development of the breeds. With possibly a European type club/organisation to help promote and guide newcomers to the breed.
3: Encourage responsible healthy breeding staying true to the CKU vision of type and honouring the history of the both breeds.
4: It was noted that although these two types of dog had co existed for many years side by side in the Chinese Sichuan-Yunnan border Province
it was now important for the CKU to split the two obvious different types that had evolved for their future development.
The registration process has begun but it was felt that in a few years the CKU would revise some of the breed standard points with regards to
tongue pigmentation, tail and possibly some other points that may be relevant with the breeds development.
It was felt that breeders should work towards a solid dark tongue and a true to type rigid tail as these were true breed characteristics
along with a reverse scissor bite for the Chongqing Dog and scissor bite for the Chuandong hound.
Breeders would also have to work on developing true proportions of the head according to the CKU standards.
It was felt that a healthy proportion for the Chongqing Dog would be 2:1 allowing the dog to still become a functional working dog.
It was Mr Leungs wishes that we focus on healthy examples of the breed so that when the time was right for FCI recognition
we could compete at the highest level with regards to group placings and possible Best in Show awards.
Construction , movement , type and fit for function would be something as responsible breeders we should all include in any breeding programme.
Our plans for a annual speciality show was discussed and it was felt that with the new CKU registration process under way
it would be nice to possibly hold a annual event hosted in a different convenient location every year with CKU registered dogs.
All nice positive things to focus on for people with in the breed.
Mr Leung felt that working together as a breed so much could be achieved in a small amount of time.
He went on to tell me that now in China Native breeds would be able to compete in Group 11 at All CAC Shows plus SPECIALITY Shows
another big step forward for the Chongqing Dog and Chuandong Hound in China.

October 13, 2017: CKU/FCI Chongqing Dog Speciality Show
CKU China Native Breed Conservation Club.
On the 13th October 2017 the CKU (Chinese Kennel Club) put on a speciality show
for the Chongqing Dog and Chuandong Hound.
At this show they invited both Chongqing Dog and Chuandong Hound to take part in their Native Breed registration process.
At the show 14 Chongqing Dog and 16 Chuandong Hound we’re registered.
The price of this process was 800 rmb Chinese currency,
the fee being a lot for the average person in China hence the dogs registered on the day was low.
The Certificates have just been sent out to the individuals hence we are seeing this via Facebook.
A very special moment in time for our breed.
